One account has to cover Nina's Windows laptop, iPhone, Android tablet, Fire TV, and the old computer in the spare room. IPVanish makes that crowded device drawer easier. The catch is that its strongest features don't land identically on every screen.
This is a fit-first review, not a claim that a VPN makes Nina anonymous. The question is whether IPVanish's device reach, controls, and current privacy evidence match the machines and failures she actually has.
The Best Fit Is a Crowded Device Drawer
IPVanish is compelling when connection limits create household friction. Its current site advertises unlimited simultaneous connections, and its official setup hub covers major desktop and mobile platforms plus Fire TV, Apple TV, compatible routers, and other streaming hardware.
That doesn't mean every platform is the same product. A native Fire TV app is useful in Nina's living room; a Windows laptop exposes different controls; a manually configured router may not show the same server picker or feature toggles as either app.
Start with the two devices that matter most. If the laptop and TV behave well, “unlimited” has practical value. If a required control is missing on the one device that handles sensitive work, the large device count doesn't rescue the fit.
A household router can cover devices that lack a native client, provided the router and service support the same configuration. The GL.iNet Flint 2 below is relevant to that whole-home role. Verify current IPVanish profiles, firmware, throughput, and policy-routing needs before treating it as a shortcut.

One router connection is easier to manage, but it also concentrates the failure. Nina still needs to test the public IP and DNS path from a device behind it, then watch what happens when that tunnel drops.
Unlimited Connections Remove Only One Limit
The device policy removes account-slot arithmetic. It doesn't remove bandwidth limits at home, weak Wi-Fi, slow hardware, distant servers, or the overhead of encrypting several streams at once.
It also doesn't secure an infected laptop, a reused password, or a phishing page. The VPN changes the network route. Nina's accounts, browsers, and devices keep their own security jobs.
This is where many reviews drift into feature counting. The useful question isn't how many devices can display Connected. It is how many can reconnect, block a failed tunnel, and reach essential services without constant babysitting.
The No-Logs Case Has Evidence—and History
The current IPVanish privacy policy, updated February 18, 2025, says the service doesn't collect, monitor, or log browsing activity while connected. It says aggregated performance data excludes IP addresses, connection timestamps, and DNS inquiries; local diagnostic files stay on the device unless the user sends one to support.
The company's live Trust Center lists no-logs assessments by Leviathan Security in 2022 and Schellman in April 2025. IPVanish says subscribers can access the full Schellman report inside their account. That access limit matters: a named assessor and date are stronger than a slogan, but public scrutiny is narrower when the complete report sits behind a subscription.
History belongs in the decision too. Reporting based on a 2016 federal court affidavit documented subscriber and connection information supplied during a criminal investigation, despite the no-logs marketing reported at the time. That incident occurred under earlier ownership and practices; it doesn't prove current logging, and later audits don't erase that it happened.
The fair reading is neither “nothing changed” nor “trust us now.” Read the present policy, inspect the audit scope available to you, and decide how much weight current independent checks deserve against the historical record.
Feature Parity Is the Real Trap
IPVanish's official kill-switch page now says the system-level feature is integrated into Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, with a separate companion app for Fire TV. Its split-tunneling page lists compatible platforms and distinguishes app-based from domain-based exceptions.
Those pages are more useful than a generic feature table because they expose the platform question. Nina should confirm the current instructions for her exact operating-system and app version, then test the result. A feature can exist and still behave differently during boot, sleep, roaming, or manual disconnect.
Follow a split route completely. The device chooses which app bypasses the VPN. The ISP sees that direct app's connection plus the encrypted tunnel carrying covered traffic. IPVanish handles the covered side, not the exception. Each destination sees the public IP of the route that reached it.
An exception isn't a leak when it's intentional. It's still less private for that app.
Protocol Choice Is a Debugging Kit
IPVanish offers WireGuard and OpenVPN, with other choices depending on the app. WireGuard is the sensible first trial for a compact modern design and quick connection. OpenVPN's TCP/UDP options and broad compatibility can help on networks where the first choice fails.
Don't turn the protocol menu into superstition. Pick a nearby server, reproduce the problem, change one variable, and test the same call, site, or download again. A smaller ping number is useful, but a stable route through sleep and network changes is worth more.
IPVanish also documents OpenVPN router support and supplies router setup guidance. Manual configurations can protect devices without native apps, but app-only controls may not carry over. Check kill-switch behavior and DNS handling at the router itself.
Travel Puts the Controls Under Pressure
At a hotel, Nina's phone moves from cellular to Wi-Fi, the laptop sleeps, and the room's streaming stick sits behind a captive portal. Automatic connection and a kill switch matter here because the risky moment is the gap, not the stable session.

Test the router after the hotel uplink drops. Then test one client behind it. If traffic silently falls back to the ordinary route, the convenient topology just moved the leak instead of fixing it.
Run a Weekend Test Before You Commit
Put the service through Nina's actual routine, not a benchmarker's ideal network:
- Connect the two most important devices and one streaming device.
- Sleep, wake, and move a phone between Wi-Fi and cellular.
- Break the tunnel and confirm the kill switch blocks traffic as intended.
- Check public IPv4, IPv6, WebRTC, and DNS results on each platform.
- Try a call, a download, and essential bank, email, and work accounts on two nearby servers.
- Verify that every split-tunnel exception sends only the intended app or domain outside.
Record the app version, server, protocol, and network when something fails. “Slow on Android 17 over hotel Wi-Fi using WireGuard” gives support a starting point; “bad VPN” doesn't.
Verdict: Strong Reach, Conditional Control
IPVanish earns a close look for a household with many personal devices, especially when native TV apps and manual router support matter. Its current privacy policy is specific, and the 2022 and 2025 no-logs assessments add evidence beyond the policy itself.
The reservations are equally concrete: feature behavior varies by platform, the newest full audit isn't publicly open to nonsubscribers, and the 2016 disclosure remains part of the record under former ownership. Download only from the official setup hub, test the failure cases during the refund window, and judge the service on the device you can't afford to leave exposed.
